Trend Comebacks: The 90's Jean

Jeans are like panties for a girl: you need them in different colors, styles, rises, and materials - for every and any occasion.

Over time, a plethora of styles dominated shopping receipts: acid wash, distressed, capri, the nostalgic mom jeans, laid-back boyfriend jeans, and the top contender of the 70's - the bell bottoms. All of which begs the question, "What jeans are for the milennial?"

Answer: The 90's jean.

You've seen it on album covers, music videos, on Aaliyah and Missy Elliot. Typically paired with Tommy Hilfiger boxers peeking out above the waistline or even fishnet stockings, but never without a cropped top or hoodie and the freshest pair of K-swisses. The baggier the better. If you had a shiny belly button piercing to boot, you were an absolute bomb shell.

Ah, the 90's. Such a nostalgic yet generation-changing era.

Post-90's jeans made a huge 180, transitioning to a tighter fit and dare I say, mobility. Soon, the high rise was introduced and it became a competition for boys to see who could fit in the smallest pair. Hence, the cigarette jeans

Crossing fingers that trend doesn't make a return.

Nowadays, streetwear has taken the fashion industry by storm and denim needs to find its place in this trend windstorm, and rightfully so. With streetwear's infamy of retro colors versus loud prints and oversized pieces that don't actually fit oversized, jeans need to match that energy.

Luckily, these Topshop ones do just that. With a wide leg (that's not too wide or too narrow), this pair carries the illusion of a baggy fit without compromising movement - a lewk we've all been lusting after. A high rise gives these jeans a modern twist that accentuates the frame in all the right places.
